The purpose of certification is public safety and, therefore, IBLCE has established minimum Professional Standards for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs).
IBCLCs must demonstrate continued knowledge to practice by recertifying every five years. They are expected to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills through appropriate and regular continuing education. Five years after passing the exam, recertification through fulfillment of continuing education requirements is permitted. Every ten years, recertification by examination is required.
If you are an employer, licensing board or other organization that requires verification of an individual’s certification status, please click here to download and submit the Certification Verification form.
To locate an IBCLC in their community, consumers may use the "Find a Lactation Consultant" search service provided by the International Lactation Consultant Association.
The IBLCE Privacy Policy prohibits staff members from providing contact information for IBCLCs.
